Normal Disc
The disc sits centrally between vertebrae, fully contained. The outer ring (annulus fibrosus) is intact, and the inner gel (nucleus pulposus) is properly hydrated. The nerve root has full clearance.
HealthyDiagnosed with a disc bulge or herniation? Before considering surgery, explore our proven non-surgical approach. Spinal decompression therapy combined with chiropractic and acupuncture has helped patients avoid surgery and return to normal life.
Auckland Wellness Centre provides non-surgical disc bulge and herniation treatment at our North Shore Auckland clinic in Rosedale. Dr. Jun uses spinal decompression therapy with the Win Trac 100 system to relieve disc pressure without surgery. Our integrated approach combines chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, and targeted rehabilitation. ACC patients pay $40 for chiropractic and $30 for spinal decompression — no GP referral required.
Your intervertebral discs act as shock absorbers between the vertebrae of your spine. Understanding what's happening inside your disc is the first step toward effective treatment.
The disc sits centrally between vertebrae, fully contained. The outer ring (annulus fibrosus) is intact, and the inner gel (nucleus pulposus) is properly hydrated. The nerve root has full clearance.
HealthyThe outer ring weakens and the disc expands beyond its normal boundary — like a burger patty spreading under pressure. The outer layer remains intact but the disc presses toward nearby nerves, causing back pain, tingling, or weakness.
Moderate — TreatableThe outer ring tears and inner disc material (nucleus pulposus) leaks out. This directly compresses the nerve root, causing severe pain, numbness, or weakness down the arm or leg — often presenting as sciatica. More serious than a bulge, but still highly responsive to decompression therapy.
Severe — Urgent CareBefore agreeing to surgery, understand what conservative care can achieve. Most patients who follow a structured decompression protocol avoid the operating table entirely.

The Win Trac 100 is a computer-controlled spinal decompression table that creates precise negative pressure within the disc. This gentle traction draws herniated material back into place, promotes nutrient flow to the disc, and reduces nerve compression — all without surgery.
You are comfortably positioned on the Win Trac 100 table, with a harness fitted to the target spinal segment. No anaesthesia, no needles.
The computer-controlled table applies a precise, rhythmic distraction force — creating negative intradiscal pressure. The herniated or bulging material is gently drawn back toward centre.
Negative pressure draws nutrients, oxygen, and fluids back into the disc, accelerating natural healing. Nerve compression is relieved as the disc rehydrates and repositions.
15–25 sessions over 6–8 weeks, combined with chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture. ACC covered at $30 per session for eligible patients.

Disc healing takes time. Our structured protocol is designed to deliver measurable improvement at every stage, with most patients experiencing significant pain reduction within the first 4–6 weeks.
Comprehensive musculoskeletal examination, postural analysis, orthopaedic and neurological testing. Digital X-ray analysis to map your spinal alignment. A personalised treatment plan is designed and discussed with you before any treatment begins.
2 visits2–3 Win Trac 100 decompression sessions per week. Combined with chiropractic adjustments to restore spinal alignment and acupuncture to reduce inflammation and pain. This is the core healing phase where most patients experience the greatest pain relief.
12–18 sessionsSession frequency reduces as your disc stabilises. Chiropractic adjustments focus on long-term structural correction. Targeted rehabilitation exercises introduced. Progress re-evaluated against baseline assessment — measurable improvement expected by this stage.
8–10 sessionsMaintenance care with reduced visit frequency. Focus shifts to prevention: core strengthening, ergonomic guidance, posture correction, and home exercise programme. Progress review with X-ray comparison where appropriate.
4–6 sessionsYou leave with a comprehensive home exercise programme, ergonomic recommendations, and a clear understanding of how to protect your disc long-term. Periodic check-ups recommended every 6–12 weeks to maintain progress.
