Seated cervical traction for forward head posture at Auckland Wellness Centre, North Shore
Seated cervical traction at AWC. The halter supports the base of the skull and jaw while a measured load is applied along the line of the neck, used alongside CBP adjustment and rehabilitation.

Quick Answer

How can I correct my posture in Auckland?

Posture correction at Auckland Wellness Centre, North Shore, is led by Dr. Michael Blandy, one of about six CBP-trained chiropractors in New Zealand.

We measure your posture before we treat it. Standardised photographs taken with PostureScreen record head, shoulder and hip position in millimetres and degrees, and we re-measure at twelve weeks under identical conditions. You leave with the comparison report, so progress is something you can see rather than something you take our word for.

Treatment combines Chiropractic BioPhysics adjustment with Denneroll 3D traction and exercise prescription, aimed at the mechanics holding the posture in place rather than the symptom alone. ACC patients pay a co-payment per session and no GP referral is required.

The CBP Method: Posture Correction You Can Measure

Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) is the most evidence-based technique in chiropractic. Instead of judging your posture by eye, we measure your spine, correct it, and measure it again. Dr. Michael Blandy is one of about six CBP-trained chiropractors in New Zealand, with 20 years of experience.

Step 1

Measure

Digital posture photos and X-ray analysis establish your exact spinal alignment and curve angles as the baseline for care.

Step 2

Correct

CBP mirror-image adjusting and Denneroll 3D traction, with Win Trac spinal decompression where indicated, work on the structure itself rather than just the symptoms.

Step 3

Re-measure

Follow-up imaging and posture analysis compare your alignment against the baseline, so progress is tracked in degrees, not guesses.

The CBP Protocol

What Chiropractic BioPhysics actually does in a session

CBP was named in 1980 for physics applied to biology in chiropractic. It treats posture as geometry that can be measured, then loads the spine in the direction opposite to the way it has drifted. Three parts, used together.

Step 1

Mirror Image® Adjustment

You are positioned in the opposite of your own postural pattern before the adjustment is delivered, so the correction works against the direction your spine has settled into.

Step 2

Mirror Image® Exercise

Active movements performed in that same opposite position, so the muscles being trained are the ones that have to hold the new alignment once you leave the clinic.

Step 3

Mirror Image® Traction

Sustained postural loading held in position. This part is aimed at the ligaments and the curve itself rather than at movement, and it is where the Denneroll sits in your plan.

Your traction setup is prescribed from your own X-ray measurements rather than picked off a shelf, and it is re-set as your curve changes. Most clinics adjust and send you out. Here, traction is part of the plan from the first measurement, and Win Trac 100 decompression runs on site rather than being referred out.

Every correction direction comes from measurement rather than opinion: a postural analysis of the twelve rotations and translations available to the head, rib cage and pelvis in three dimensions, and CBP line drawing on lateral and AP X-rays read against the Harrison spinal model. Structural work follows an initial relief phase rather than starting on day one. What gets measured at the first visit, and in what units, is set out on our spinal and posture assessment page, and what the X-ray itself can and cannot measure is explained separately. Understanding Posture Correction

Common Causes of Posture Correction We Treat

Poor posture is rarely just a habit, it's typically a structural pattern. The underlying cause is usually thoracic stiffness, scapular dysfunction, or deep neck flexor weakness. Targeted correction addresses both the visible posture and the structural drivers.

Most Common

"Tech Neck" & Forward-Head Posture

Head forward of shoulders from prolonged screen time. Drives chronic neck pain, headaches, and upper back strain. Try our 5 text neck exercises →

Conservative Care

Rounded Shoulders & Upper Cross Syndrome

Shoulders forward, chest tight. Drives shoulder pain, breathing restriction, and chronic upper back tightness.

Conservative Care

Hunched Upper Back (Thoracic Kyphosis)

Increased thoracic curve from desk work or osteoporosis. Targeted care improves mobility and reduces upper back pain.

Conservative Care

Anterior Pelvic Tilt & Lower Cross

Sway-back posture with abdominal protrusion. Drives chronic lower back pain. Combined adjustment and rehab address the pattern.

From Our Clinical Team

Why posture cues alone don't fix the problem

Cervical traction halter and pulley used for postural neck care
The halter and pulley set the direction of pull. Load and time are set for each patient and recorded, so change can be measured between visits.

In our clinical experience treating postural dysfunction in North Shore Auckland, we've seen a clear pattern: conservative care produces meaningful improvements when applied early. The 2014 systematic review in J Manipulative Physiol Ther (Bryans et al.) showed manual therapy combined with prescriptive exercise produces meaningful posture improvements, and the ACC Clinical Pathway explicitly recommends conservative management before more invasive options.

At AWC, every postural dysfunction case follows our three-step integrated approach: (1) Biomechanical assessment to identify the root cause, we examine thoracic mobility, scapular position, deep neck flexor function, and habitual patterns. (2) Targeted intervention combining chiropractic adjustment, sports acupuncture, and rehabilitation under one roof. (3) Functional rehabilitation with home exercises to prevent recurrence. This integrated model is what separates lasting recovery from temporary relief.

Understanding Good Posture

Everyday Posture Habits: Desk, Sleep, Standing & Kids

Good posture is a balance between structural alignment, muscular endurance, and daily habits. Most postural problems develop gradually from sustained positions. The fix is similarly gradual, structural restoration plus consistent habit changes.

Most Common

Desk & Computer Posture

Sustained forward-head and rounded-shoulder posture at the desk. The single most common modern postural pattern.

Conservative Care

Sleeping Position & Pillow Support

Pillow height and mattress firmness influence cervical and lumbar alignment overnight. Many wake-up pain patterns trace to sleeping setup.

Conservative Care

Standing Posture & Balance

Pelvic tilt and weight distribution during standing. Important for retail, trade, and healthcare workers.

Conservative Care

Child & Teen Posture

Posture patterns develop early. Backpack weight, screen time, and growth-related changes all influence adolescent posture.

Common Questions

Posture Correction FAQ

Do I need a GP referral for posture correction?
No. Posture care does not require referral. If your postural issues stem from an injury, we'll assess ACC eligibility.
How long does it take to correct posture?
Visible postural improvements often occur over 8-16 weeks of consistent care plus prescribed home exercises. Long-standing patterns take longer.
Is chiropractic adjustment effective for postural correction?
Yes, when combined with prescriptive rehabilitation. Adjustments restore mobility; exercise builds the muscular pattern needed to maintain the new alignment.
Can I correct posture without ongoing care?
The goal is to graduate to independent maintenance. Once the structural barriers are addressed and you have a prescribed exercise routine, ongoing care may only be periodic.
Is the clinic wheelchair accessible?
Yes. AWC Rosedale is wheelchair-accessible with ground-floor entry, accessible parking, and an accessible treatment room. Please let us know in advance if you need assistance.
Do you speak Korean or Chinese?
Yes. Korean and Chinese-speaking practitioners are available. Please request your preferred language at booking.
