How Acupuncture Works at AWC

Not a one-size-fits-all protocol — a clinical approach tailored precisely to your condition.

Assessment & Diagnosis

Your acupuncturist assesses your condition using TCM diagnostic methods alongside modern clinical evaluation. We identify patterns, not just symptoms — understanding the root cause before placing a single needle.

Personalised Treatment

Precise needle placement activates your body's natural pain-relief and healing pathways. Treatment is tailored to your specific condition, not a generic protocol. Every session adapts as your body responds.

Recovery & Maintenance

Regular sessions build cumulative effects. Most patients report lasting improvement after a course of treatment, with many returning periodically for maintenance — maintaining the gains they've worked for.

Acupuncture Consultation Fees

ACC-covered patients pay little to nothing. Private patients receive world-class expert care at transparent, fair rates.

ACC Covered Free–$20 $0 with 3 practitioners · $20 with Dr. Won
Private Initial $80 First consultation
Private Follow-up (60 min) $70 Subsequent sessions

Real Patient Result

Real Patient Result — Vicki and John Davidson

"I can only speak highly of Jun and Dr Robin, I literally struggled to walk. I was diagnosed with having very aggressive Rheumatoid arthritis and after having an MRI this showed that I also have 4 bulging disc's in my lower spine. With hand on heart with 1 session of acupuncture every week on the 3rd-4th week I felt good, my body finally felt like everything was in its right place and more importantly I was pain free. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone in pain and discomfort."

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. AWC is an ACC-registered acupuncture provider. If your condition is related to an accident or injury, ACC may cover a significant portion of your treatment costs. No GP referral is needed — we assess your ACC eligibility at your first appointment. ACC coverage applies to everyone injured in New Zealand, including visitors, workers, and students.
Acupuncture needles are extremely fine — much thinner than injection needles. Most patients feel little to no discomfort. A mild "Deqi" sensation (a dull ache or warmth at the needle site) is normal and often indicates the treatment is working. Our practitioners adjust technique based on your sensitivity and comfort.
For acute pain or injury, improvement is often noticeable within 3–6 sessions. Chronic conditions or complex issues like fertility support typically benefit from a longer course (8–12 sessions). Your acupuncturist will give you a realistic plan at your first consultation — we don't lock you into packages.
Sa-am is an advanced Korean acupuncture system developed over 400 years ago. It uses a precise, minimal-needle approach targeting specific meridian points to address both pain and internal organ dysfunction. Dr. Robin Won is one of very few practitioners in New Zealand with specialist-level Sa-am training — his results with complex neurological and chronic conditions reflect this.
Yes. Acupuncture is widely used during pregnancy for morning sickness, back pain, pelvic pain, and preparation for birth. We recommend Elaine Yang for prenatal acupuncture — she has specific experience in pregnancy care and adapts her approach for every trimester.
Dr. Robin Won is our lead specialist — PhD qualified with New Zealand's highest acupuncture accreditation, best suited to complex and neurological conditions. Ada Zhong specialises in combining acupuncture with cupping and Tuina for myofascial and soft tissue conditions. Elaine Yang focuses on sports, rehabilitation, anxiety, and digestive health. Mike Lee offers traditional acupuncture for general wellness and chronic conditions. We'll recommend the right practitioner for your specific needs when you book.
